What did I find out?
Key Question: How
will the rise in temperature in the ocean affect the marine life of the Great
Barrier Reef?
I discovered that the only way to stop the rising temperatures of the oceans is to reduce climate change, which would mean the population of the world would have to reign in their emission of greenhouse gases, failure to do anything will result in a devestating 1°C-3°C temperature rise of the Great Barrier Reef.
Summary of the affect on marine Life:
The rise in temperature in the ocean effects the marine life by causing coral bleaching. Coral bleaching can lead to the dying of coral ecosystems, which can lead to mass migration or extinction of the marine creatures that live in and/or need the Great Barrier Reef to survive. The rise in temperature can also affect the reproduction rate of Krill, which is at the base of the food chain and can have a flow on effect by disrupting the life cycle of krill eaters, which in turn causes food shortages for higher predators. Due to the rise in temperarture natural processes may breakdown too, effecting the relationship of mutual dependece of some species.
