Adressing the Problem to the Earth Summit 2017: Rio +25
This is a 5 year plan that can be presented to the Earth Summit 2017: Rio +25. The plan will research the impacts of climate change on the Great Barrier Reef, spread awareness and educate people on how to reduce energy consumption.
1st year- First we have to spread awareness of climate change and the effect it has on the marine life of the Great Barrier Reef. To get our message across things such as posters, commercials, newspaper articles and community meetings can be used. We also need to collect data on current situatuon of the Great Barrier Reef, so we can compare it to data in five years time.
2nd year - To raise awareness even futher, we would look at including the impact of climate change in school, TAFE and University curriculum. In this curriculum lessons on how to mind your carbon footprint and reduce energy consumption would be included.
3rd year - Provide established grants to trial approaches to investigate climate change impacts on the Great Barrier Reef . Grants would be available to schools, univerities and organisations and would be used in projects that can reduce climate change and/or look at different elements of the the Great Barrier Reef and study them.
4th year - Conduct local climate change forums across selected regional and urban locations to showcase outcomes from grant projects and studies.
5th year - Lastly we need to evaluate the impacts of grants and collect data on the sitution of the Great Barrier Reef. Compare this data to the data collected in the 1st year and see if there has been an improvment due to awareness and grant projects and studies.
These 5 years of work would have raised awareness across the Australian community gathered critical data on the impacts of climate change on the Great Barrier Reef.
